Parent Involvement:At Home

It could be said that children learn as much at home as they do at school, and there are many activities you can do with your kids to influence their education in a positive fashion. Some ideas include:

  • Encourage your child to read often-Sometimes that is all it takes to create a lasting love of literature.
  • Help your child's school in operating and organizing a phone tree-Designed to improve parent communication, it would create a better interparent dynamic and better facilitate quick communication.
  • Help out the school with fundraising-A little time and encouragement in this field earns the school more money that can benefit the community.
  • Gardening-Spending time gardening with your child will increase their exposure to different creatures and plants, and could spark an interest in the field.
  • Help with event planning-Helping with the organization and execution of events greatly impacts the success of the event, which benefits everyone involved.
  • Sit with your children and read/do homework-By showing interest in their schoolwork, you reinforce the value of their education and insure continued interest in it.
  • Recruit other Parents or Community Members-By encouraging others to participate, you are getting more people involved in the activities described above, having greater results.
  • These are just some ideas, and there are many more possible ways to impact your child's education.
